Description
The tour begins at Gijón’s Marina, a key location featuring the sailboats of the port. You will learn about the city’s Celtic origins and its history under Roman and Christian influence.
Walking along the pier, the first stop is the Revillagigedo Palace. This 18th-century palace has two towers, one of which is 300 years older than the other. Nearby stands the statue of Don Pelayo, the first Asturian king, a figure deeply respected in the region.
Next, the tour continues through Cimadevilla, the fishermen’s neighborhood, where you can explore some of the oldest streets in the city and sense its maritime heritage intertwined with Roman remains.
From Cimadevilla, the route follows the coastline along the Gijón Wall, a broad avenue parallel to the Bay of Biscay. Here, you will see San Lorenzo Beach meet the sea and learn about the history of this important city thoroughfare.
